With just over 40 years of experience as a music educator, I bring a wealth of knowledge to the design process. I’ve spent time with some of the leading visual designers in the activity over the years attending workshops and in study of the pageantry arts. I’m currently the Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Nebraska where one of my primary responsibilities is visual design for the 300 member Cornhusker Marching Band. I began my work as a designer by writing for my own competitive high school marching band in the 80s. In the late 90s, I began designing for other area bands. Over the past 30 years, I have completed visual design work for bands in Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. More recently, I have decided to branch out and offer instruction in the use of Pyware design software and the principles of visual design for the marching arts. You may be interested in my “Drill Dojo” offerings.

I have added yet another project to my list. I’m currently working on a new book, Stratagem. Stratagem will focus on the process of rehearsal in the marching arts. It will be the most comprehensive guide of its kind. My anticipated publishing deadline is the summer of 2024.

I live in Lincoln, Nebraska with my wife, Judy who is also a career music educator. We have 3 grown sons and 2 grandsons. In my spare time, I enjoy bicycling, travel, and driving my Fiat 124 Spider.
